Arlaine Ziehmke

PORTAGE — Arlaine Ziehmke, 94, of Portage, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Tivoli in Portage, Wisconsin.
Arlaine was born in Caledonia to Ada and Rudolph Rumann. She was united in marriage to Les Ziehmke on May 2nd, 1942.
Arlaine dedicated her life to family, friends, and the farm. She raised six children and was an avid gardener and cook. Those who had the fortune to eat dinner at the farm could count on a dinner with all the trimmings that was well ahead of the “farm to table” food movement. Her sweets were not to be missed especially her pies, pecan rolls, and chocolate cookies.
Arlaine had the fortune of spending much time with her grandchildren and played an active role in their development. She was proud of their accomplishments and always enjoyed visits from their growing families. During her later years, Arlaine’s dog and cat were also constant companions who provided unconditional love and entertainment.
She is survived by her children, Jim (De Ette) Ziehmke of Boerne, Texas; Jerry (Carol) of Pardeeville, John Ziehmke, Jeff Ziehmke, Jay (Mary) Ziehmke, and Julie (Bill) Zimmerman, all of Portage. She was also blessed with 7 grandchildren: Brett, Anthony, Angela, Megan, Josh, Tanya, and Chris, as well as 6 great-grandchildren. Arlaine was preceded in death by her husband, Les, her parents Ada and Rudolph, her siblings Cyril, Evelyn, and Ruth, 4 grandchildren: Melissa, Sarah, Teresa, and Timothy, and special family friend John Staudenmayer.
Arlaine’s family would also like to thank the in-home caretakers, staff at Tivoli, and friends who made the last few years of Arlaine’s life a brighter place.
A memorial service to celebrate Arlaine’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14th at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.
