Charles "Chuck" Dean Goranson

PORTAGE  --    Charles “Chuck” Dean Goranson, age 70, of Portage, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Meriter Hospital in Madison.

Charles was born on December 11, 1943 in Chicago, the son of Ernest and Eulala (Cook) Goranson.  He lived in Madison from age four until moving to Lake Wisconsin in 2004.  Chuck graduated from Wisconsin High School in Madison and from the University of Wisconsin.  After serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, he founded Vets for Vets, a student veteran service organization where he worked to help many thousands of university students to get their veterans education benefits.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Louise Robson;  his sister-in-law, Laura Otis;  his nephews, Casey and Max Goranson;  his mother and father-in-law, Claire and Nat Robson;  several brothers- and sisters-in-law;  many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard. 

An informal gathering of friends and family will take place at a later time.
