Robert E. Kaschinske

PORTAGE/WYOCENA  --  Robert E. Kaschinske, age 88, of Portage died on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the Columbia Healthcare Center in Wyocena.

Bob was born on March 12, 1926 in Portage, the son of William and Helen (Paske) Kaschinske.  He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy and later served in the National Guard.  He married Caroline Wendt on August 30, 1946.  Bob was the Postmaster at the Portage Post Office and worked for Lee Realty following his retirement.  He was an active member of the Portage Kiwanis Club, the Richard Mulcahy American Legion Post #47, and the Cleary-Krech VFW Post #1707, as well as serving on the Police and Fire Commission.  Bob was a member and Elder at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline Kaschinske, of Portage; Kathy (Steve) Page, of Nokomis, FL, Sally (Larry) Heil, of Wausau, Bonnie Kaschinske, of Madison, and Tim (Tina) Kaschinske, of Hartland; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his sister, Martha Anacker, of Portage; his brother, Ken Kaschinske, of Saginaw, MI, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage with Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Burial will follow, with full military honors, in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, or the Columbia Health Care Center.
