Mary J. McIlrath

FITCHBURG  --  Mary J. McIlrath, age 80, died on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Mary was born on October 16, 1933 in Scranton, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd “Jimmie” and Edna (Jacobsen) Moylan who farmed.  She was married to Dr. Gordon E. McIlrath in 1953.  Mary enjoyed volunteering and working with special needs people.  She loved traveling and spending time with her family.  Mary belonged to a Bridge Club, enjoyed canoeing with friends, snowmobiling and being an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan.

She is survived by her children, Jeff (Connie) McIlrath, Minneapolis, MN, Brad (Beth) McIlrath, Iowa City, Iowa, Joe (Lori) McIlrath, Arlington, Ann (Bill) Parysz, New Jersey, and David McIlrath, Arlington;  her sister, Elaine (John) Crothers, North Carolina; 9 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dr. Gordon “Mac” McIlrath, her twin sister, Marilyn Ferguson, her granddaughter, Faith Helt, her son, Eric Scott Blair, and her brother-in-law, Eugene “Ferg” Ferguson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Poynette with Fr. Paul Eruva presiding Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Another Service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014   at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City, IA visitations will be at 9:30 with services at 11:00  Burial will be at the Lake City Cemetery, Lake City, Iowa.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette is assisting the family along with Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City, IA.
