Esther C. Owen

PORTAGE - Esther C. Owen, age 101, died Thursday, January 23 at Heritage House Assisted Living in Portage.

Esther was born February 1, 1912 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Gustaf and Agnes Ekberg. She married John A. Owen November 21, 1932 where they farmed in Caledonia Township. After retirement they enjoyed their winters in Florida.

Esther was a member of many organizations including Caledonia Neighborhood Club.  She enjoyed bowling, reading, visiting family, and so enjoyed playing cards and being with her grandchildren.

She is now in peace and has joined her husband, John, daughters Margaret Hill, and Mary Dawson.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Martha Owen-Abney of Martinez, California, Jean (Ken) Kabele, Portage, Helen (Roland) Paske, Portage, son David Owen, Portage, sister Betty Scott, Rio, 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29th from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Portage United Methodist Church where her funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Tom Countryman officiating.  A private burial will be held in Welsh Cemetery.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Portage United Methodist Church.
