Doris L. "Dorie" Simonson

PORTAGE  --  Doris L. “Dorie” Simonson, age 84, died on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at her home in Portage.  

Dorie was born on September 30, 1929, in Portage, the daughter of Allan and Nina (Evans) Loveland.  She married Rodney J. Simonson on May 14, 1948.  He preceded her in death on December 25, 2006.  Dorie enjoyed writing poetry and reading. 

She is survived by her son, Larry (Pat) Simonson; her granddaughter, Amy Hibner; her son, Russell (Sue) Simonson; her grandchildren, Sara (Marc) Brockley, Jeremy Simonson, and Mitchel Reed Simonson; her daughter, Phyllis (Greg) Zimmerman; her grandson’s Marcus (Theresa) Zimmerman, and Jason (Sarah) Zimmerman; 7 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Delmer (Diane) Loveland, and Douglas Loveland; her brothers-in-law, Henry Cuff and Harley (Gretta) Simonson; her sisters-in-law, Lucille Schultz, and Yvonne (Jim) Boomer; her special godchild, Rhonda (Jeff) Loveland-Kosharek, other near relatives and many close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Rodney, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Velma (William) Thompson, Eleanor (Delbert) Simonson, Shirley Cuff, Patsy Loveland, Elaine Fruend, Darlene (Edward) Schultz, and Maxine Fortune-Furman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Burial will be private in Oak Grove Cemetery. 
Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or to The ARC of Greater Columbia County.
