Gunner Mikkel Sweeney PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN LOCATION FOR THE VISITATION AND SERVICE. PORTAGE – – Gunner Mikkel Sweeney, age 14, was born into eternal life as a result of an automobile accident on Sunday, October 26, 2014. Gunner was born on June 28, 2000 in Portage, the son of Joseph Sweeney and Katie (Broas) Alves. He was a freshman at Portage High School and was loved and respected by his many friends, classmates and teachers. Gunner loved the outdoors, whether it be fishing with his dad, or hunting with his family, especially his cousins, Dustin Sweeney and Trennen. He also loved spending time with his little brother Brayden teaching him all about hunting and fishing. Gunner’s love for the Packers was evident in every conversation pertaining to football, especially his bantering with his step-dad about the Packer’s versus the Bills and his stories about how fun it was to watch a Packer game with his uncle Stefan. Gunner’s lifelong dream was to join the Navy like his Aunt Heidi and uncles, Jerry, Mikkel and Carl, but Gunner was very specific in his ambition to become a Navy Seal. Even up in heaven, Gunner is still watching over Raiden, Brayden, Angel, Mercedes, Dominick and Blake, like big brothers do. Visitation will be Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the service immediately following at John Muir Elementary School, 2600 Woodcrest Drive, Portage, with Rev. David Hankins and Rev. Thomas Grey, co-officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the family towards a memorial bench.
