John W. "Jack" Stout

PORTAGE – John W. “Jack” Stout, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at his home in Portage, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born on April 27, 1941, in Sauk Prairie, the son of Glen and Julia (Clements) Stout.  He graduated from Mazomanie High School in 1959 and he attended the University of Wisconsin until he enlisted in the Navy.  Jack married the love of his life, Johni McCann, on July 1, 1967 in Madison.  He was employed at Oscar Mayer for 19 years and then worked as a Systems Analyst at Cuna Mutual Insurance Company until his retirement.  Jack was a lifelong Badger, Packer and Brewer fan.  His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life; attendance at their extra-curricular activities was a priority in his life.  He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage. 

He is survived by his wife, Johni Stout, Portage; his children, Suellen (Rick) Kurt, Madison, Tami (Nathan) Burdick, Montello and Sean (Paula) Stout, Portage;  his grandchildren, Julia (fiance’ Mitch Johnson) Kurt,  Windsor, Kasey (Kyle) Flood , Appleton, Jenna Kurt, Madison, Garrett Jansen, Montello, Jonah and Johnathan Stout, Portage, and Tatum Burdick, Montello; his great-grandson Killian Flood; his siblings, Eleanor Pape, Madison, Carolyn (Fritz) Fangmeier, Waunakee, Tom (Lolly) Stout,  Cross Plains, Sue (Gary) Howards, Oregon, Vivian (Greg) Zelinka, Waunakee, Joe (Cindy) Stout, Florida and Ellen (Jim) Steck, San Antonio, TX; his sisters-in-law, Coleen Erstad, Madison and Patricia (Mike) Hilgers, Jackson; his brother-in-law, Jerry (Margaret) McCann, Madison, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, and his infant brother Georgie.    

 Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Military Honors will be provided by Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church.

The family would like to thank Rena, Shelly, Stephanie and Emily along with the entire staff of Heartland Hospice, as well as Dr. Mark Juckett and Dawn Reininger of UW Health and Dr. Susan Kreckman of Divine Savior Healthcare for their compassionate care.  A special thank you to the family and friends who helped Jack and his family throughout his illness and final days.
