Betty L. Brancel

ENDEAVOR/BRIGGSVILLE – Betty L. Brancel, age 91, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Tivoli in Portage.

Betty was born on September 16, 1926 in Portage, the daughter of Howard and Gladys (Smith) Bronson.  She was married to Earl Brancel on April 14, 1945 in Portage.  They spent their life living outside of Briggsville on the family farm.  Betty was a member of the Briggsville United Methodist Church and served on many committees over the years. She was active in the local 4-H club helping the area youth with their projects.  Betty was also a caregiver to many of her family members over the years.  Her devotion to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her mission in life.  A warm and welcoming home and of course a little chocolate always awaited your visit.  Earl and Betty enjoyed their many friends in the area and loved to travel.  Betty was the hostess for numerous family birthday parties and beautiful Christmas Eve gatherings.  Her legacy is love.

She is survived by her children, James (Carol) Brancel, of Endeavor, Sally (John) McGwin, of Montello, Jeanne Druschke and special friend Tom Druschke, both of Eagle River and Bob (Deborah) Brancel of Waunakee; nine grandchildren, Jason (Carmen) Brancel, Ryan (Sharon) Brancel, Brooke (Brian) Beale, Mike (Jill) Foley, Hali (Cy) Thompson, Nathan (Jenna) McGwin, Tim Druschke, Nicole Brancel and Emma Brancel; six great-grandchildren, Madeline Brancel, Hans Brancel, Sarah Foley, Violet Brancel, Calla Brancel and Bronson Beale, and a great-grandchild on the way; her brothers, Fredrick (Barbara) Bronson and Richard (Mary) Bronson and a step-sister, Jane Mazzara, other relatives and special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Earl Brancel, her parents and a great-grandson, Gabriel Brancel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Briggsville United Methodist Church in Briggsville, with Rev. Susan Oeffler officiating.  Burial will follow in Briggsville Protestant Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the church.

A special thank you to Heritage House of Portage, Tivoli Nursing Home and Agrace Hospice for their loving care over the last three years.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Briggsville United Methodist Church.
