Larry R. Brewster

PORTAGE – Larry Roy Brewster, age 89, of Portage, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at University Hospital in Madison.

Larry was born on August 2, 1928, the son of Edgar M. “Ted” and Nora M. (Frank) Brewster.  He married Mary Catherine Noe on May 3, 1952. He was a professional engineer and land surveyor and was owner and sole proprietor of Brewster & Associates in Portage, Wisconsin, for nearly 50 years. He graduated with honors from Marquette University, Milwaukee, with a degree in civil engineering and surveying and was an honorary member of Chi Epsilon fraternity. He was a talented musician and in younger years he played saxophone and clarinet in big bands and later enjoyed singing ‘bass’ with his barbershop quartet which performed locally.  He also served for some years as a volunteer fireman with the Portage Fire Department.

He is survived by his children, Peter Steven (Danell) Brewster, Cameron Park, California, Susan Ann Brewster,  London, England, Rachel Elizabeth (Jim) Porter and Rebecca Brewster, Portage;  his grandchildren, Erica (Bryan) Thomas, Danica (Justin) Cooper, and Elisa Mathewson; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Theo “Brownie” Cross, Beaver Dam, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Brewster (1998), his son Eric Jonathan Brewster (1984), his brother Roger and his brother-in-law, Bill Cross.

The family would like to thank the staff at University Hospital in Madison for the excellent care Larry received.

Memorial services will be private.  Inurnment will be in Silver Lake Cemetery.  Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pauquette Park Pavillion.
