Raymond N. Heilman

WYOCENA – Raymond N. Heilman, age 92, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena.

Raymond was born on June 5, 1926, in Rugby, North Dakota, the son of Walter and Christina (Heisler) Heilman.   He served his country in the United States Army, deployed to Korea for two years during the Korean War.  He married Rosanna Schmidt on June 9, 1953 in Rugby, North Dakota.  They then moved to West Bend in 1964, where they raised their family.  They later moved to Cassville in 1979, where they owned and operated the Sand Bar Motel.  They retired and moved to Portage in 1993.  Ray was a long time member of the Cassville Lions Club.

He is survived by his children, Kathleen Heilman, Rugby, North Dakota, Gary (Sarah) Heilman, West Bend, Timothy Heilman, Baraboo, James (Lisa) Heilman, Elkhorn, Richard (Judy) Heilman, Fond du Lac, Marla (Steve) Thole, Madison and Nancy Houim, Rugby, North Dakota;  nine grandchildren, Leah and Jon Heilman, Jenna Heilman, Katelyn and Ethan Heilman, Heidi and Heather Thole, Josh and Amber Houim;  his siblings, Pauline Fettig, of West Bend, Caroline Keller, Barbara Burgard and John (Agnes) Heilman, all of North Dakota, Jerome (Judy) Heilman, of Menomonee Falls and Mary Ann (John) Paxton, of Colorado, other relatives and many friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rosanna, his son-in-law, David Houim, his grandchildren, Ashley and Abby Houim, his brother, Daniel and sister-in-law, Isolda Heilman and his brothers-in-law, George Fettig, Tony Keller and Eusabius Burgard.                  

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 31, 2018, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Portage with Military Honors by the Portage Area Veteran’s Honor Guard.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, where the Rosary will be recited at 4:40 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for other considerations.

The family would like to thank the Columbia County Healthcare Center in Wyocena for their exceptional care of Raymond and Rosanna Heilman.
