Roy A. “Rooster” Kopfhamer

OXFORD – Roy A. “Rooster” Kopfhamer, age 75, of Oxford, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at his home on Parker Lake.

Roy was born on March 21, 1942 in Cazenovia, Wisconsin, the son of Wenzel and Joyce (James) Kopfhamer.  He served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  Roy married Elizabeth “Betty” Funk on July 26, 1966.  She preceded him in death on November 3, 2010, and he remained passionately devoted to her.  Roy had worked at Badger Ordnance and then at Wisconsin Power & Light.  Roy enjoyed fishing and was a member of the National Fishing Hall of Fame for many years.  He also enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, and playing cards.  Roy always welcomed friends and family into his home, and always had a cold beer waiting.  He was an avid UW Badger fan, and had season tickets for the football games for many years.  He had been a member of the Jaycees and the Portage Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his children, Laurie Duffy, Sun Prairie, Michael (Julie) Kopfhamer, Portage, Timothy (Nancy) Kopfhamer, Portage, and Joseph (Beth) Kopfhamer, Sun Prairie;  his sister-in-law, Marian Kopfhamer, Portage;  two brothers, Robert (Margaret) Kopfhamer, Portage and James (Toshi) Kay, Tennessee;  his brother- and sister-in-law, Ed and Diane Funk, Poynette;  six grandchildren, Hannah Duffy, Sun Prairie, Robert Wiersma, Jr., Portage, Carilyn Kopfhamer, Portage, Teresa Kopfhamer, Portage, Paige Kopfhamer, Sun Prairie, and Riley Kopfhamer, Sun Prairie;  a great-grandson, Phillip Duffy, Sun Prairie;  other near relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, his sister, Karen Neaves, and his brother, Rusty Kopfhamer.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Julie Krahn officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Portage, with military honors provided by Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
