George Douglas Bogue

PORTAGE  --  George Douglas Bogue, age 87, of Portage, died on Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Veterans Hospital in King, Wisconsin.

Doug was born on January 6, 1922 in Madison, the son of David and Margaret (Lyle) Bogue.  Doug graduated from Portage High School in 1939.  He attended Carroll College in Waukesha, receiving his B.A. in 1943.  He earned his L.B. from University of Wisconsin Law School in 1949, and his L.L.D. from UW in 1966.  Doug served his country in the U.S. Army from July 1943 to October 1945 with the Medical Corp of the Infantry, 77th Division, 305th Regiment.  He was stationed at camps in Illinois, California, Arizona, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.  In July of 1944 he was sent overseas to Guam.  During the rest of WWII he served in Leyte, Kerama Retto, Ieshima, Okinawa, Saipan, and then back to Guam.  Doug received 11 decorations including the Purple Heart with two clusters, and the Silver Star.  After graduation from law school, he was a partner with his father in the Bogue & Sanderson Law Firm for 29 years, until his father’s death in 1978.  He continued working in Portage until 1994 when his office was closed due to his illness.  For a time Doug was a part-time coach for football and curling at Portage High School.  In 1980-1981 his team won the State Curling Championship.  Doug married Catherine McCarthy of Madison on July 21, 1950.  They had a son, Cameron Scott Bogue on December 6, 1955 in Madison.  Doug was an avid curler, belonging to the Portage and Madison Curling Clubs, he was also very actively involved in fastpitch softball.

Doug is survived by his son, Cameron Bogue (Champ), West Palm Beach, FL; his grandsons, Cameron Scott Bogue, Jr., and Shane Daniel Bogue; his brother, David Bogue, Jupiter, FL, other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage with Rev. David Hankins officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Poynette.  Visitation will be held on Monday, November 23, 2009 from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
