Larry H. Ebert

LEWISTON TOWNSHIP  /  PORTAGE  --  Larry H. Ebert, age 55, of Lewiston Township, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Rev. William Grimm officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.

Larry was born on October 12, 1953 in Portage, the son of Harold and Margaret (Schultz) Ebert.  He was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1994.  He had been stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, K. I. Sawyer in Michigan and Eglin in Florida.  Larry was married on June 9, 1973 to Joanne Wahl at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lewiston Township.  His work history included Elwin Gay Cleaning Service, Electronic’s Mechanic Service, Portage Plastics, Weyenberg Shoe Factory, Poynette Canning Factory and Ho-Chunk Casino.  Larry’s life-long interests were Harley Davidson and motorcycle rallies;  Ski-Doo snowmobiles;  collecting guns, target shooting and reloading;  flight simulations and real aircraft;  camping;  guitar and country music;  hunting and fishing, when he was younger, with his dad;  DVD’s, CD’s, and entertainment systems;  and spending time in the country and wilderness.  He was a member of the Carl E. Grabman American Legion Post #329, Briggsville.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne;  his daughter, Margaret (Greg) Phenis, Las Vegas;  his son, Jacob Ebert, Las Vegas;  three sisters, Darlene Kimball, Briggsville, Diane Garcia, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Lorna (Terry) Bruns, Pine Bluff, Wyoming;  his brothers- and sisters-in-law, John and Nancy Wahl, Portage, Kenny Wahl, Portage, Matt Wahl, Wisconsin Dells, Jeanie Jahn, Portage, Karen Wahl, Wisconsin Dells, and Theresa Thompson, California;  many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
