Gladys H. Olson

POYNETTE – Gladys H. Olson, age 90, of Poynette, died on Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Columbia Healthcare Center in Wyocena. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, with Rev. Marion Hendrickson officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.  Friends may call on Monday, March 16, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and at the church on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 from noon until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. 

Gladys Olson was born on March 5, 1919, in Vienna Township, Dane County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Otto and Pauline (Reppenhagen) Wilke.  She graduated from Waunakee High School in 1936, and married Robert C. Olson on December 12, 1939 in DeForest, Wisconsin.  Robert preceded her in death on April 24, 1997.  Gladys was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. She was also a member of the Women’s Club and the Bridge Club.  Gladys was a past Poynette Village President and served on the Village Board.  She took the school census for many years.  She was employed with ABS in Windsor, Wisconsin for 12 years.  Gladys made many wedding cakes as well as being a talented seamstress for her family.

Survivors include her children: Rachel Spear, Elkhorn, WI, Polly (Paul) Woodward, Poynette, Robert (Kathy) Olson, Jr., Tomah, WI, Jennifer Smith, East Troy, WI, Rebecca Ingersoll, Signal Hill, CA, Gretchen (Tim) Mantz, Oak Park, IL, Sonja (George) Twaroski, West Allis, (Manitowoc), WI, and Carl (Katherine) Olson, Amesbury, MA; grandchildren: Abigail (Tony) Serena, Christopher (Lorrie) Spear; Paula Lusz, Buck (Lisa) Woodward; Mark (Kim) Olson, Matthew (Jenna) Olson, Michael (Amy) Olson; Andrew (Sara) Smith; William Ingersoll, Nicholas Ingersoll;  Erik Twaroski, Kirk Twaroski, Jason Twaroski, and Ryan Twaroski, Jonathan and Victoria Farnell; great-grandchildren: Ty, Tierney, and Codi Woodward, Paige Lewis, Austin and Mitchell Olson, Alexandra, Brianna and Ben Spear; Logan Serena; Mikayla and Ethan Olson; brother, Stanley Wilke, Waunakee, sister, Eleanor (Kenneth) Johnson Dane, WI, sister-in-law, Clare Olson, Genoa City, WI, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and many close friends.  Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ruvin Wilke, a sister, Frances Haskins, and a son-in-law, Gene Spear.
