Louis W. Owen

STEVENS POINT  /  PORTAGE  --  Louis W. Owen, age 91, of the Township of Lewiston, died on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Rev. David Hankins officiating.  Burial will follow in Cambria    Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Louis was born on March 26, 1917 in the Township of Caledonia, Columbia County, Wisconsin, the son of John Milton and LaVerna (Cook) Owen.  He was married on January 12, 1949 to Florence Sternhagen-Laufenberg in Westfield.  Louis had farmed in the Town of Springvale, and later worked at Ladish Foundry in Milwaukee.  He had a great love for music and enjoyed feeding his birds.

He is survived by his wife, Florence;  his children, Lavern (Carol) Owen, Almond, Keith (Carol Jean) Owen, Portage, Barbara (Ted Busch) Rotramel, Milwaukee, Bonnie (Jeff) VanderZanden, Junction City, Mickey Owen, Bancroft, Sandra (Scott) Legwold, Waunakee, and Richard (Betti) Owen, Portage;  15 grandchildren;  16 great-grandchildren;  other near relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Mary, and two sons, Duane and Elmer.
