Dolores Mae (Tomaier) Swanson

PARDEEVILLE  /  PORTAGE  --  Dolores Mae (Tomaier) Swanson, age 77, died after a brief battle with cancer, February 8, 2009 at University Hospital in Madison.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.  Inurnment will be private.

Dolores was born on November 25, 1931 in Glidden, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Delaney) Tomaier.  She grew up in Glidden, graduated from Glidden High School in 1949, and moved to Tomahawk, Wisconsin.  She was married to Glen Swanson on September 9, 1950 in Glidden.  In the 60’s they moved to Portage, and resided there until 1990, when they moved to their Swan Lake home.  For 16 years she was a snowbird in Arizona.  Dolores was an avid card player and especially loved playing bridge and 500, with her close friends, her husband and other couples.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

She is survived by her husband, Glen;  her children, Sandy Swanson, Menomonee Falls, Mike (Mary) Swanson, Pardeeville, and Jean (Steve) Turner, Portage;  her grandchildren, Amber (Nick) Gawel, Pardeeville, Jamie Swanson (Brandon Ferguson), Madison, and Dan Swanson, Oshkosh;  her great-grandson, Thomas Gawel;  her sister, Mary Kellogg, Wausau;  other near relatives and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
