Herman L. Ziehmke, Jr.

PORTAGE  --  Herman L. Ziehmke, Jr., age 87, of Caledonia Township, died on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena.

Herman was born on February 23, 1922 in Portage, the son of Herman and Bertha (Behnke) Ziehmke.  He farmed in Caledonia Township all of his life.  Herman enjoyed bowling on the Tuesday Night League for many years, and fishing in the pond.  He was a member of the Caledonia Presbyterian Church.  

Herman is survived by his children, Jane Ziehmke, Waukesha, Kay Bryan, Madison, Gail (Dean) Meister, Brooklyn, WI, Caryl (Richard) Biege, Sun Prairie, Sue (Greg) Fahey, Carlsbad, CA, and David (Patty) Ziehmke, Portage; a son-in-law, Richard Haak, Brookfield; nine grandchildren, Tara (Matt) Buringa, Julie (Richie) Lloyd, Kevin Meister, Sandra Bryan, Rebecca (Brent) Sorensen, Heather (Corey) Hehenberger, Kristi Nehls, Anthony (Elizabeth) Ziehmke, and Daniel Ziehmke;  seven great-grandchildren;  sisters-in-law, Esther Platt, Baraboo, and Helen Gollmar, Baraboo, other near relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Josephine Ziehmke, his wife Jean Ziehmke, his daughter Phyllis Haak, his brother, Lester Ziehmke, his sister Alydia Krejchik, infant granddaughter, Michelle Nehls, infant grandsons, Patrick Meister, and Aaron Sorensen, his brothers-in-law, Wayne Gollmar, Harold Platt, Ross Genrich, and Edward Krejchik, and his sister-in-law, Joyce Genrich.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Rev. Paula Bremer officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 9:00 until the time of the service at 11:00 on Saturday, at the funeral home.
