Jean P. Ziehmke

PORTAGE  --  Jean P. Ziehmke, age 85, of Caledonia Township, died on Wednesday, January 07, 2009 at Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Rev. Paula Bremer officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.

Jean was born on January 4, 1924 in Merrimac, Wisconsin, the daughter of William and Iva (Niles) Martin.  She had been a member of the Caledonia Homemakers and enjoyed bowling on Thursday afternoons.  Jean grew up where Devils Head is now located, went to school at the Old School House, and graduated from Baraboo High School.  She was a member of Caledonia Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Herman L. Ziehmke, Jr.;  seven children, Jane Ziehmke, Waukesha, Kay Bryan, Madison, Gail (Dean) Meister, Brooklyn, WI, Phyllis (Richard) Haak, Brookfield, Caryl (Richard) Biege, Sun Prairie, Sue (Greg) Fahey, Carlsbad, CA, and David (Patty) Ziehmke, Portage;  nine grandchildren, Tara (Matt) Buringa, Julie (Ritchie) Lloyd, Kevin Meister, Sandra Bryan, Rebecca (Brett) Sorensen, Heather (Corey) Hehenberger, Kristi Nehls, Anthony Ziehmke, and Daniel Ziehmke;  six great-grandchildren;  two sisters, Esther Platt, Baraboo, and Helen Gollmar, Baraboo;  other near relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Joyce Genrich, infant granddaughter, Michelle Nehls, infant grandsons, Patrick Meister and Aaron Sorensen, brothers-in-law, Wayne Gollmar, Harold Platt, Ross Genrich, Lester Ziehmke, Edward Krejchik, and sister-in-law, Alydia Krejchik.

A special thank you to Home Health Care, EMT’s, nurses and doctors at Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital, and Pastor Paula Bremer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caledonia Presbyterian Church.
