Raymond L. Eichelberg

OXFORD TOWNSHIP  --  Raymond L. Eichelberg, age 90, died peacefully at his residence in Oxford, Wisconsin on Sunday, April 24, 2010.   

Raymond was born on December 14, 1919 in Chicago, the son of Raymond and Agnes (Wiscour) Eichelberg.  Known as “Ike” to his co-workers of 30 years with the Chicago Transit Authority, Ray retired and moved to his favorite vacation spot in 1987 to Oxford.  There he enjoyed gardening, walks, mornings at McDonalds, and special weekends with the grandchildren.               

Raymond is survived by his wife, Marie, of 64 years;  his children, Janis L. Zidek (Joseph), Lawrence R. (Debra) Eichelberg, and Robert A. Eichelberg (Karen);  his daughter-in-law, Lynette Eichelberg;  his grandchildren, Julie A. Fritz (Gary), Joseph R. Zidek (Peggy) James A. Eichelberg, David Eichelberg, Karen Rivera (Joe), Ian Eichelberg, and Kevin Eichelberg;  great-grandchildren, Dylan Fritz, Michael Zidek, Dana Fritz, Alyssa Zidek, Frances Eichelberg, Madison Rivera and Makenzie Rivera;  his sisters, Elaine Dinges (John) and Dorothy Miller (Jack);  many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Raymond L. Eichelberg, Jr., and John R. Eichelberg, his grandson, Richard Eichelberg, and his sister, Bernice Connolley.        

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage with Pastor Mike Gormican officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.    

He was a kind and gentle man, who will be missed by many.  In lieu of flowers, he would ask you to plant one in your yard and name it “Ray”.
