Carlton “Carty” Eugene Kutzke

NEKOOSA - Carlton “Carty” Eugene Kutzke, age 85, of Nekoosa, passed away February 7, 2010  at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, surrounded by his family.

Carlton was born on May 22, 1924 in Portage, the son of the late Karl F. and Alpha (Harrison) Kutzke. Carty graduated from Portage High School in 1942 and served in the Navy during WWII. He was married to his loving wife, Patricia “Pat” Ladenberger on September 21, 1943 in Portage. He also served with the Air Force Reserve from 1950 thru 1953. Carty worked as a tailor at Gimbels in Milwaukee, Spoo & Sons of Madison and Baskin Olson & Verhusen of Madison. He and his wife Pat also operated the Little Rock Motel in Dodgeville.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Kutzke, Nekoosa;  his eleven children, Mary Kutzke, Verona, Carl (Linda) Kutzke, Lake Mills, Pat (Steve) Kohn, Middleton, Mike (Kimeron) Kutzke, Evansville,  Katy (Elmer) Blachowiak, Dousman, Holly (Pat) Chwala, Watertown, Sue (Jeff) Clark, Poynette, Peter Kutzke, Madison, Garth (Debbie) Kutzke, Eleva, Dave (Stephanie) Kutzke, Middleton, and Geri Kutzke, Dodgeville;  a sister, Kathleen (Tony) Bortz, Portage; 33 grandchildren;  30 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Hiller, his brothers, Jack and Jerry Kutzke, and one granddaughter, Angel Kutzke.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday February 13, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Portage with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 10:00 a.m. at the church.

His wife requests donations be given to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital or the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
