Kathryn G. "Katie" Brown

PORTAGE  -- Kathryn G. “Katie” Brown, age 77, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer..

Katie was born on May 23, 1933 in Elroy, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Fern (Forbes) Garvin. She married Keith Brown on June 2, 1956. Katie was a school teacher for over 30 years, many of which were in the Portage School District. She had been in Elkettes, was in numerous card clubs, a volunteer for the Food Pantry and Divine Savior Hospital gift shop and was a member of Wauona Women’s Club.

Katie is survived by her children, Scott (Peggy) Brown, Portage, Marge (Ron) Axelsen, DeForest, Dan (Grace) Brown, Waupun, Sue (Jeff) Genac, Racine, Barb (Ed) Comstock, Portage; grandchildren, Matt (Alicia) Brown, Portage, Michael (Nikki) Brown, Knoxville, TN, Katie Axelsen, Baraboo, Zach Comstock, Endeavor, Andy Axelsen, DeForest, Kyle and Alec Brown, Waupun, Alysa Comstock, Portage, Lucas and Tony Genac, Racine; great-grandchild, Lyla Brown, Portage; sister, Mary Brady, Elroy; brother, Robert (Joann) Garvin, Elroy; special sister-in-law, Bev (Bill) Huebel, Wonewoc;  other relatives and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Keith in 1991.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage and on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.
