J. Leonard Harralson

PORTAGE – J. Leonard Harralson, age 89, of Portage died on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at AmericanWay in Portage.

Leonard was born on February 12, 1921 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Henry and Julia (Callahan)     Harralson. On January 16, 1943, he was married to Alberta Bukaty in Kansas City, Kansas.  He served his country as a line chief in the Army Air Corps.  Leonard worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 23 years, and then for US Railway as Vice President of service engineers for 18 years.  He loved traveling and golfing with his wife.  Leonard had a passion for music and loved to sing.  He enjoyed his retirement at Saddle Ridge, and enjoyed fishing on Swan Lake. 

He is survived by her sons, Bill (Marina) Harralson, Minneapolis, MN and John (Silvona) Harralson, Naperville, IL;  granddaughters, Jill (Phil) Mitchell, Lees Summit, MO. Susan Harralson, Raytown, Mo, Cindy (William) McEvilly, Huntley, IL, and Sandra (Daniel) Pederson, St. Anne, IL;  great-grandchildren, Madison Mitchell, Kevin, Mark and Eric McEvilly, Nathan, Leanne and McKenzy Pederson;  special friends, Holly Harralson, Chicago, IL, Maryellen Harralson, Oak Forest, IL;  many other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alberta on October 23, 2010, and his brother, Lloyd.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
