Dr. Rev. Marvin C. Janssen

 

PORTAGE/FOND DU LAC  -- Dr. Rev. Marvin C. Janssen, age 86, died peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Fond du Lac Health Care Center, in Fond du Lac.           

Marvin was born on July 11, 1924, in Sibley, Iowa, the son of Meine and Gladys Janssen.  On May 8th, 1957, he married Violet (Preuss) Janssen at First Presbyterian Church in Packwaukee.  Marvin served his country during WWII in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre.  He went on to pursue his career in the ministry and attended the University of Dubuque Seminary to attain ordination as a Presbyterian Minister.  Then while remaining active in the ministry went on to attend McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago to receive his Doctorate degree.

Together with his wife, Violet, he served in the ministry for over 50 years serving many churches in several states.  In later years he resided with his wife at their farm near Dalton where they enjoyed many happy times when continuing to serve as interim pastor in area churches.             

Marvin is survived by his brothers, Vern (Marles) Janssen, Charles (Gerda) Janssen; his half-brother, Fred (Myrna) Hostetler; his daughter, Sharon Bredahl; granddaughter, Dawn (Isadore) Hibbler and family; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Violet in December of 2009, and his sisters, Ruby and Marles.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Buffalo Community Bible Church, with Pastor Ron Larson officiating.  Burial will follow in Underhill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services, at the church.  Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
