Wilmer R. “Pete” Klauer

PORTAGE  --  Wilmer R. “Pete” Klauer, age 77, of Portage, died on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at University Hospital in Madison.

Pete was born on May 26, 1933 in Helenville, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur and Ruth (Todd) Klauer. 
He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean War, and was a member of the Richard Mulcahy American Legion Post #47, Portage.  Pete was married on April 8, 1978 to Virginia Miller.  He had worked both as a mechanic, and as a semi driver for many years.  He retired from Klemm Tank Lines as a semi driver in 1995.  Pete enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and hunting.  He loved his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Gin”, Portage;  his children, Roy (fiancée, Kyra Woods) Klauer, Watertown, Vickie Arndt, Watertown, Andy (Kelley) Klauer, Winneconne, WI, Carla Klauer, Watertown, Robert (Leslie) Klauer, Lowell, Heather (fiancé, Bob Williams) Klauer, Green Bay, and Arthur (Annie) Klauer, Portage;  his grandchildren, Tonya, Nicole, Anthony, Ryan, Luke, Thomas, Leigha, Zachary, and Lindsey;  his great-grandchildren, Mariah and Serenity;  his brothers, Eugene (Joan) Klauer, Rhinelander, Raymond (Jan) Klauer, Jefferson, and Roger (Barb) Klauer, Lake City, MN;  his sisters, Marge (Gary) Manke, Jefferson, and Karen (Al) Behlke, Lake Mills;  his brothers-in-law, Greg (Donna) Miller, Columbus, Kevin (Kathi) Miller, Tacoma, WA, Keith (Pam) Miller, Fall River, and Brian (Karen) Miller, Rio;  his sisters-in-law, Karen Klauer, Helenville, Aud (Jerome) Kasmiski, Columbus, Paula (Jim McCaffrey) Miller, Columbus, and Brenda (Mark) Miller, Janesville;  many other relatives and close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Violet Kohls, his brother-in-law, Richard Kohls, his brother, Melvin Klauer, and his mother- and father-in-law, Florence and Carl Miller.

Due to his dedication to the service, Pete’s wish was to have his body donated to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.  Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Portage United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Countryman.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Portage United Methodist Church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.  www.pmmfh.com
