James M. Owens, Jr.

PORTAGE  --  James M. Owens, Jr., age 63, of Portage, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 13, 2010.

James was born on September 4, 1947, the son of James Sr. and Winifred Wagner Owens.  A native of Portage, he graduated from Portage High School in 1965.  He enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country from 1966 – 1969 during the Vietnam War.  After returning to the states, he worked on the rail line from Portage to Minneapolis for a number of years.  Most recently, Jim worked at AMPI and in the construction industry.  He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and playing guitar.

Jim is survived by his mother, Winifred Wagner Owens;  his sister, Barbara (Hugh) Turner;  his niece, Tanya (Adam) Jacobs;  his nephew, Vance (Marie) Turner;  other near relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, James M. Owens, Sr., his grandparents, Fred and Marie Hoefler, and Clyde and Bonnie Owens.

At Jim’s request, the family will hold a private funeral service.
