Leo C. Pieper

PORTAGE  --  Leo C. Pieper, age 88, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital.

Leo was born on February 7, 1922 in Portage, the son of Edward and Cora (Hall) Pieper.  He served his country in the South Pacific during World War II in the U.S. Army.  Leo had been Commodore of the Portage Boat Club.  He was instrumental in organizing the Portage Rod and Gun Club, and the monthly dinners and dances that occurred there.  He received a plaque for 40 years of commitment and service to the Portage Rod and Gun Club.  Leo was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Portage. Leo loved to fish, hunt, and dance.  He had worked as manager at General Indicator Co. in Pardeeville for many years.

He is survived by his son, Randy Pieper, Portage;  his special friend and companion of over 25 years, Dorothy Haynes, Portage;  two granddaughters, Amy (R. J.) Cole, Portage, and Julie (Daniel) Osborne, Grand Marsh;  five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jaden, and Sawyer Cole, Brandon and Dan Prew;  his sister, Coralene Wiese, Portage;  other near relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, June (Bolgrihn) and Mary (Brown), his brother, Ed, his sisters, Myrna and Arria, his grandson, Nathan Pieper, and his daughter-in-law, Christine Pieper.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Portage, with the Rev. Vicki Warren officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, with military rites provided by Portage area veterans.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
