Dolores Jean Schneiter

PORTAGE  --  Dolores Jean Schneiter, age 84, died on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at her home in Portage.

Jean was born on January 19, 1926, in Lomira, the daughter of Ruben and Lena (Stettbacher) Unferth.  She graduated from Lomira High School in 1943. On November 1, 1947, she married Howard F. Schneiter.  Jean was employed as an Administrative Assistant for Portage Public Schools from 1960-1980, and Miller & Miller Attorneys, from 1980-1982.   She enjoyed traveling through all 50 states plus Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.  She also took many cruises including one to the Panama Canal.  Jean was a member of Portage Presbyterian Church, and was a Divine Savior Hospital Volunteer.    

Survivors include her husband, Howard, Portage; her children, Peggy (Steve) Lavold, Waunakee, Glenn Schneiter, Pensacola, FL, and Gerald (Mary) Schneiter, Portage; her grandchildren, Matthew (Nicole) Lavold, Adam (Ann) Lavold, Michael (Allison) Lavold, and Jonathan (Andrea) Schneiter; her great-grandchildren, Ashley Schneiter, Drew, Mason, Gabe, and Connor Lavold; her brothers and sisters, Donald (Doreen) Unferth, Bill (Maryanne) Unferth, Janice Unferth Frazee, and Shirley (Frank) Washatka; her sister-in-law, Mary Schneiter, other relatives and many friends.  Jean was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Portage Presbyterian Church, with Rev. David Hankins officiating.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service, at the church.  A Committal Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Ledgeview Memorial Park in Fond du Lac, where visitation will be held in the chapel from 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service.   

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Portage Presbyterian Church, Volunteers of Divine Savior Hospital, or the Portage Public Library.
