Thelma I. Walker

POYNETTE  --  Thelma I. Walker, age 91, of Poynette, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010 at Greenway Manor in Spring Green.

Thelma was born on November 28, 1918 in Columbus, Wisconsin, the daughter of Gustav A. and Isabelle (Anderson) Larson.  Her mother died when she was 12, and she had to quit school to care for her younger siblings.  Thelma grew up in the Rio and Keyeser areas, and was a lifelong member of Spring Prairie Lutheran Church in Keyeser.  She had worked as a machine operator for Graber Mfg., and worked summers at Del Monte Corp.  Thelma was married on October 12, 1940 to Clyde Walker, who preceded her in death on February 3, 2000.  She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and baking.   

She is survived by five children, Richard A. (Robin L.) Walker, Poynette, Kenneth M. Walker, Montello, Robert G. Walker, Oshkosh, Donald C. (Sieglinda) Walker, Poynette, and Mary L. (Richard) Oman, Lone Rock, WI;  a special daughter-in-law, Adele Walker, Poynette;  16 grandchildren;  33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;  one sister, Doris Chute, Mazomanie;  other near relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Arnold, Clarence, and Ted Larson, and a sister, Pearl Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, with the Rev. Peter Olson officiating.  Inurnment will be private at Spring Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the organization of your choice in Thelma’s memory.
