Cloyd E. “Ernie” Zehner

 

POYNETTE  --  Cloyd E. “Ernie” Zehner, age 96, died on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Meriter Hospital in Madison.

Ernie was born on December 1, 1913 in Ashland, Ohio, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Bertha (Wertman) Zehner.  He worked as the chief herdsman for the University of Wisconsin Dairy Science Department in Madison for 40 years.  Ernie was married to Mary Sheets on October 5, 1940.  He was a member and elder of Bethel Lutheran Parish in Poynette, and formerly an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Middleton.  Ernie enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips to Northern Wisconsin, and fishing in Canada, especially with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Mary;  his children, Barbara (Dean) Johnson, Lodi, Karen (Jim) Kutella, Lake Oswego, Oregon, Larry (Bobbi) Zehner, Madison, and Sharon Hultman, Poynette;  five grandchildren, Todd (Mary) and Jason Hultman, Kirsten (Dean) Griffith, Josh (Guinevere) Kutella, and Derek (Kristin) Johnson;  four great-grandchildren, Olivia Hultman, Tyler, Addison and Jack Griffith;  his brother, Raymond (Linda) Zehner, Ashland, Ohio;  other relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Herschel Zehner, and two sisters, Thelma Smalley and Ruth Cole.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 101 Bethel Drive, Poynette, WI  53955, with the Rev. Stephen Lee Kurth officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Caring Hearts in Poynette, for their loving care to Ernie. Also, a thank you to everyone involved at Meriter Hospital for all their great care as well.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church in Poynette.
