Mark William Benedict

 

MADISON/PORTAGE –  Mark William Benedict, of Madison, beloved son and brother, was born August 23, 1955 at University Hospital, Madison and died June 8, 2011, predeceasing his parents, David and June Benedict, Portage.

Mark attended Portage schools.  He was voted and revered as student representative to the Portage School Board, received the SAR award.  Mark was selected to Badger Boys State where he was voted Clerk of Courts.  He was on the state championship curling team and was in cross country and track.  Mark was part of the Portage Bethlehem Lutheran Church Boy Scouts group and received his first communion and confirmation at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Mark attended Platteville State University, and University of Wisconsin, Madison.  He earned a bachelors degree, majoring in archaeology and anthropology. 

Mark was self-employed having his own construction floor tile business, Everware Tile, serving Madison and surrounding areas.  Mark enjoyed fishing with his brothers and father in northern Minnesota.  He also loved nature, especially gardening.  Mark received a kidney transplant from Bryan Benedict over 25 years ago, and is now a tissue donor out of love for others.      

He is survived by his parents, David and June Benedict, Portage; his brothers, Kevin Benedict, Platteville, and Bryan Benedict, Rancho Palos Verdes, California; a sister-in-law, Maureen Benedict; his nieces, Anna and Jeanette; a nephew, Braeden; his aunt, Lorraine Silvernail, Pleasanton, California; Diane Hopp, Mark’s long-time loving friend of 30 years; four cousins, Stephen, Michael, James and Margaret Ann, other relatives and many friends. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Grace Bible Church in Portage with Dr. Steve Corbett officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  Burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Platteville.  Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church or the American Kidney Foundation.
