Frederick H. Hake, Jr.

PORTAGE  --  Frederick H. Hake, Jr., age 75, of Portage, died on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at St. Mary Hospital in Madison.

Fred was born on May 10, 1935 in Mauston, the son of Frederick and Kathleen (O’Brien) Hake, Sr.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from September 19, 1957 until May 11, 1960.  Fred was a graduate of U.W. Eau Claire and was retired from General Casualty Insurance Company.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage, and Portage Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E. #675.  Fred was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather;  and he enjoyed cooking-out with his daughter and granddaughters. 

Fred is survived by his children, Colonel Michael (Christine) Hake, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, Michelle (Bradley) Spurrier, Hartford, WI, Cherie Barrett, Portage, and Timothy (Nancy) Hake, Milwaukee;  his close friend, Patricia Hake, Cedarburg, WI;  his brother, Thomas (Ann) Hake, Eau Claire, WI;  his sister, Kathleen (Richard) Busch, Barron, WI;  ten grandchildren;  4 great-grandchildren;  many other relatives and close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Kathleen Hake.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in Mauston Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.
