Marie Krueger

PORTAGE –  Marie Krueger, age 62, of Portage, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Marie was born on January 8, 1949 in Frankfort, Kentucky, the daughter of William and Maudie (Cloyd) Smith.  Marie and Neil met in Memphis, Tennessee in 1970 and moved to Portage in 1971.  They were married on November 15, 1973 in Portage.  Marie was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and Women’s Guild.  She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Railroad Women’s Club.  Marie enjoyed her grandkids, writing poetry, painting, and spending time with her family and friends. 

She is survived by her husband, Neil;  two sons, Tony (Amy) Krueger, Freeport, Illinois and Shawne (Amanda) Child, Collierville, Tennessee;  her daughter, Jenny Krueger, Portage;  her step-children, Donna (Tim) Davis, Panama City, Florida and Kevin Krueger, Panama City, Florida;  her grandkids, Nicole, Tad, Krystina, Kassidy, Kayla, Kara, Hannah, Chloe, Zane and Alexis Marie;  her mother-in-law, Lucille Krueger, Portage;  her brothers, Harold Smith and Victor Smith, both of Frankfort, Kentucky;  her sisters, Shirley Casey, Frankfort, Kentucky, Lou (Don) Hulette, Frankfort, Kentucky, and Frances (Steve) Edwards, Collierville, Tennessee;  her sisters-in-law, Kay (John) O’Leary, Portage, Judy (Craig) Cawley, Portage, Janet (Al) Nickel, Pardeeville, and Jodi (Ed) Steele, Endeavor;  many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends;  special friends, Lois Schmidt, Marge Custer, Susan Bulgrin, Bonnie Mulhern and Jean Simonson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Maudie Smith, her brothers, Bill and Emmitt Smith, her sister, Lucille Carrico, and her father-in-law, George Krueger.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. 

Memorials may be made to the family or the Pink Ribbon Angels.
