Shirley J. Weidling

TOWNSHIP OF LEWISTON –  Shirley J. Weidling, age 59, died on Friday, November 4, 2011, at her home in the Township of Lewiston, surrounded by her family. 

Shirley was born on September 25, 1952, in Alexandria, Virginia, the daughter of Ralph and Reba (Woodrum) Emerson.  Shirley had worked for the State of Wisconsin for many years.  She was an active member of the Portage United Methodist Church.  She graduated from UW-Superior, where she worked very hard to receive her B.A. degree.  Shirley enjoyed gardening, she liked to make rugs for which she received an award, and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  

Shirley is survived by her mother, Reba Emerson; her children, Eric (fiance’ Annemarie Weaver) Weidling, Christina Weidling, Reba (Joe) Guenther, and their father, John Weidling; her grandchildren, Jessica Weaver, Abigail Weidling, Kayla, Addisyn, Hayden, and Raelyn Guenther; her sister, Cherri (Robert) Fry; her brothers, Wayne Emerson, and Jeff Emerson, other relatives and many friends.  Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Emerson.  

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Portage United Methodist Church in Portage, with Pastor Tom Countryman officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
