Janet Ida Dushek

PORTAGE  -- Janet Ida Dushek, age 76, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Tivoli at Divine Savior Healthcare. 

Janet was born on February 11, 1936 in Portage, the daughter of Walter and Laura (Lipke) Dunn.  Janet was a life-long resident of Portage.  She worked at the First National Bank and at Caledonia Elementary School for 32 years as school secretary and librarian.  She retired in 2000.  After retirement, she enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren and visiting the occasional casino.  She was a member of the Circle Homemakers Club, and had volunteered to read to the residents of Heritage House. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Matthew “Jim” Dushek;  her three children, Laura (Scott) Ritchie, Johanna Dushek, Jim (Jessie) Dushek, and a daughter-in-law, Susan Dushek;  four beautiful grandchildren, Logan, Leyton and Kendall Ritchie and Joanie Dushek;  two brothers, Jim (Joanne) Dunn, and Dick (Marty) Dunn, a brother-in-law, Bernard (Mary Jean) Dushek;  two sisters-in-law, Kathleen (Maurice) Duffy and Trudy Dushek;  many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She will be further missed by her friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, David, two brothers, and two sisters-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage, or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY   10087-7106.
