Gilbert Figueroa

PORTAGE –  Gilbert Figueroa, age 71, died on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at his home in Portage.

Gilbert was born on June 8, 1941 in New York, NY, the son of Miguel and Mariana (Baez) Figueroa.  He served his country in the United States Army.  Gilbert married Patricia Waldo on August 20, 1977, in Madison.  He was employed at Oscar Mayer and at Portage Industries.  Gilbert was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, where he served as an usher.  He was a huge football fan and a football card collector.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Figueroa, Portage; his son, Thom (Mauren) Figueroa, St. Joseph, MI; his granddaughter, Elena; his brother, Miguel (Crystal) Figueroa, Tennessee;  his sister, Mary Figueroa, Florida;  his mother-in-law, Rosalie Waldo, Portage;  his sister-in-law, Mary (Don) Winkler, Portage, and her children, Jeff (Angie) Gilbertson and their children, Josey and Jacob;  Julie (Mike) Ostmann, and her children, Erin, Maranda, and Hayley;  and Jamie Winkler and special friend, Resolve;  his aunt, Joanna Berkeypile and her daughter, Arlene (Jerry) Tollison, their grandson, Keegan, and their daughter, Casandra (Joe) Mender and her children, Madisson, Sarah, and Isabella;  other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and his cousin, Sarah Tollison.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with a Rosary service held at the close of the visitation.  Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Health United Hospice.
