William J. "Bill" McTier

MADISON/ENDEAVOR –  William J. “Bill” McTier, age 81, died on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at University Hospital in Madison. 

Bill was born on April 20, 1931, on the family farm in Endeavor, the son of Henry and Ella (Koberstein) McTier.  He married Mona (Sauerbreit) North on February 23, 1968 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Briggsville.  Bill was a farmer and an electrician, he raised Hereford and Angus Cattle, and owned McTier Electric.  Bill served three terms on the board for the Town of Douglas as well as serving on the Marquette and Adams Telephone Co-op Board of Directors.  He also served one term as state president of the Wisconsin Telephone Cooperative Association.  Bill loved to visit and to help others.  He loved his Allis Chalmers tractors, traveling, deer hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.                      

Bill is survived by his wife, Mona McTier; his children, Steven (Gwen) North, Kathryn (Ed) Gessner, and Janet (Steve) Banks; his grandchildren, Amber, Noah, and Bailey North, Erin Gessner, Melissa (Mike) Schanke, and Anna Gessner, and Ryan, Patrick, and Angela Banks; his great-grandchildren, Eli & William Schanke; his sister, Lorna (Ed) Hilliard; brother-in-law, Nolan (Ruth) Sauerbreit, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Donna Chapman. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Briggsville, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Briggsville.  Visitation will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage and on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Portage Area Parkinson’s Support Group, 912 Cass St., Portage, WI, 53901 c/o Elaine Hanson, or River Haven Homeless Shelter.
