Robert Marcus “Mark” Portzen

PORTAGE –  Robert Marcus “Mark” Portzen, age 56, of Portage, died on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at University Hospital in Madison.

Mark was born on December 3, 1955 in Portage, the son of Robert and Donna (Krueger) Portzen.  Mark worked as a social worker at the Columbia County Healthcare Center in Wyocena, and Attic Correctional Services in Madison.  He also worked at A & M Lawncare in the Portage area.  He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Mark was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed these hobbies with his children and grandson.  He took on the challenge of gardening with much success of his pumpkins and gourds.   

Mark is survived by his son, Nicholas Thomas Portzen, Madison, his daughter, Ashley Jean Portzen, Portage; his mother, Donna Portzen, Portage.  Mark was blessed to be the proud Grandpa “Pa Pa” of Landen Thomas Portzen.  Mark is also survived by his sisters, Julie (Rick) Krueger, Wisconsin Rapids, and Sue Hon, Pardeeville; nieces and nephews, Jacob Krueger, Jamie Krueger, Nicole Hon, Jason Hon; great-niece, Ashlynn Hon; his aunt, Anna Mae (Jack) Brue, Tripoli, other relatives and many special friends.  Mark was preceded in death by his father, Robert Portzen, his grandparents, Nicholas and Loretta Portzen, and Irene Sanders, his uncles, Kenneth Brue and George Woelflein.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, W8267 Hwy 33E, Portage, WI 53901, with Rev. Dick Inglett officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home, 430 W. Wisconsin St, Portage, WI, 53901, and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
