Robert E. “Bob” Spring

PORTAGE –  Robert E. “Bob” Spring, age 89, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Tivoli in Portage.

Bob was born on August 10, 1923 in Madison, the son of John and Elizabeth (LaCrosse) Spring.  He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II, with an anti-aircraft division from 1941 until 1945.  On November 27, 1948, Bob was married to Cleo Jean Peterson in Wonewoc, Wisconsin.  He worked for Aramark for over 30 years.  Bob loved fishing and hunting, and was a huge sports fan.  He especially loved golfing, and was a golfer his entire life.  Bob was also a bird watcher and enjoyed all wildlife.  Everyone who knew him enjoyed his fun loving sense of humor.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Cleo;  two daughters, Pam (Dan) Laatsch and Lori Roche;  his grandchildren, Kendra, Kyle and Kaycie Roche;  his sister, Ruth Harper;  his sisters-in-law, Shirley Bollig and Janet (Jeep) Stanek;  his brother-in-law, Ray (Rita) Peterson;  many nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law, Tom, and three brothers, Wilbert, Walter, and Arthur.

Memorial services will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Military honors will be provided by Portage area veterans.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Southern Care Hospice and Tivoli for their wonderful care of Bob. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob’s name.

We will love and miss you, Bumpa.  You will be in our hearts forever.
