Mary Jane Langeteig Volenec

PORTAGE –  Mary Jane Langeteig Volenec, age 69, of Portage, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mary Jane was born on September 8, 1942 in Portage, the daughter of John O. and Ersel Fern (Rhodes) Langeteig.  Mary Jane graduated from Portage High School in 1961.  In 1961, she married James I. Clemmons, and together they had a son, James J. Clemmons.  Later, she was married to Arnold “Arnie” Volenec.  He preceded her in death on January 16, 2001.  She worked at Sarbacker’s for 34 years, and also was previously a nurse’s aide at Divine Savior Nursing Home.  Mary Jane loved the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and NASCAR;  and had a very special fondness for animals.

She is survived by her son, James (Debra) Clemmons, Portage;  her sister, Shirley Langeteig (M. Stuart) Barden, Portage;  her sister-in-law, Elynore Kamba, Westfield;  her nieces, Jacklyn (Glenn) Nelson, Portage, Amy Barden, Bartlett, IL, and Betsy (Timothy) Koch, Portage;  her nephew, Marcus (Jody) Barden, Jr., Portage;  her dog, Honey and special granddog, Baylee;  other near relatives and many special friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arnie Volenec, her nephew, Scott Barden, and her special friends, John Buffington and Ellie Friend.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 211 W. Pleasant St., Portage, WI, with the Rev. Dean Hekel officiating.  Inurnment will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
