 John H. Wasson

 

PORTAGE –  John H. Wasson, age 76, of Portage, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.

John was born on February 2, 1936 in Yates City, Illinois, the son of John and Helen (Nelson) Wasson. John was a loving Husband, Father, and Grampa.  He cherished many good times with his family and friends.  He retired after a rewarding 35 year career as an Industrial Designer with Ohio Medical/Ohmeda.  John was a master craftsman with a limitless imagination and a keen eye for detail.  He would see a project in his mind’s eye and with pen and paper bring it to life.  John always looked forward to spending summers at their cottage on Pleasant Lake entertaining friends and family.  During the long winter months he took great pleasure in creating signature turkey calls for fellow hunters.  John and Jean were active members at the Portage curling club enjoying time spent on and off the ice!

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jean (Slowey);  two sons, Patrick (Ruth) Wasson, Waunakee, and Shawn (Melanie) Wasson, Portage;  two granddaughters, Ashley and Sarah Wasson; (his buddy Snoop) his two sisters, Carol (Dale) Collins, Mt. Morris, Illinois and Barbara (Charles) Ehmen, Sterling, Illinois;  his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Patsy and Jack Mitchell, Portage, Jim and Nancy Hathaway, Sun Prairie, Penny Hanson, Ferryville, Sue Miller, Madison, Kathy and Gary Jepsen, Marshfield;  other near relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Katherine (Dean) Rhoades. 

A Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
