Linda D. Bortz

PORTAGE  --  Linda D. Bortz, age 59, of Dalton, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013.

Linda was born on December 1, 1953 in Malta, Montana, the daughter of Carl M. and Geraldine (Dick) Vogt.  She graduated from Portage High School in 1973.  Linda was a very hardworking person, and barely ever missed a day of work, while raising two children by herself.  She had worked at Frigo Cheese, Dealers Manufacturing, Everbrite, and Saint-Gobain.  Linda loved her family very dearly, and especially like to sing to her siblings, parents, children and grandchildren.  She celebrated holidays by singing Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas and Susie Snowflake.  Linda loved animals of all kinds, especially horses.  She loved the outdoors, going fishing and hunting, and it seemed like she knew everyone in town.

She is survived by her children, Nicole (Brian Zick) Reid, Wisconsin Dells, and Charles (Shawn Stadler) Bortz, Berlin;  her mother, Geraldine Vogt, Portage;  her grandchildren, Bricoda and Dakota Reid, Levi Zick, Dylan and Ashley Bortz;  her brother and sisters, Marcia Goode, McFarland, Carla (Bob Ripp) McCord, McFarland, Rhonda (Ron) Meeker, Montello, Nancy Kassner, Portage, and Carl (Leslie) Vogt, Portage;  her significant other, Terry Bell;  several nieces and nephews, other family members and many, many friends.  She was preceded in death by her father, her sister, Mary Johnson, and her special grandmother, Bella Sawyer.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 850 Armstrong St., Portage, with the Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
