Joan R. “Dolly” Broesch

PORTAGE  --  Joan R. “Dolly” Broesch, age 72, of Portage, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at her home in Portage, surrounded by her family.

Dolly was born on November 19, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Albert and Ruby (VanAllen) Dahl. Shortly after she was born, her older brother declared that she looked just like a “doll” and she was forever after affectionately known as “Dolly”. As a young woman, Dolly moved to Arkansas to raise her family. Years later she relocated to Portage, where she married John Broesch.  Dolly was always fun loving and full of laughter; she was the light in every room. She loved the Green Bay Packers and NASCAR. She had a tremendous talent for cooking, which she did professionally for many years. Dolly also loved Mike, her dog and dear friend, which she and John were blessed to care for.

She is survived by her husband, John Broesch, Portage; her children, Daniel Hobbs, Judsonia, AR, Dawn (Dennis) Whitener, Bradford, AR; her grandchildren, Tara (Zack Reves) and her son,Gage, Kelsey Davis, Keaton Davis, Bradford, AR, Samantha (Tyler) Slocum and her son, Cayden, McRoy, AR; her step-daughter, Kris (Joe Schwellenbach) Rankin, Winter; her step-grandchildren, Kara (Matt) Paske and their son, Terje Paske, and Ryan Rankin.  She is also survived by her brothers, Raymond (Judy) Dahl, Klamath Falls, OR, Albert (Mary) Dahl Jr., Waukesha; sisters-in-law, Verona Gray, Portage, Millie Broesch, Pardeeville and Joyce Broesch, Baraboo; nephews, Terry (Peggy) Dixon, Endeavor, Patrick (Colleen) Dixon, Portage; niece, Bonnie (Brian Franson) Dixon, Portage, and many other close relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Beverly J. Dixon.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Rev. Dick Inglett officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
