John H. Dopp

PORTAGE  --  John H. Dopp, age 95, of Portage, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 23, 2013.

John was born on November 12, 1917 in Portage, the son of William and Louise (Koch) Dopp. He was a conductor for the Milwaukee Railroad for 33 years. John served his country during WWII.  He learned to fly an airplane after he retired and gained a love for flying.  John loved to spend time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Tom) Gustafson, Beloit; special granddaughter, Angela Perry, Poplar Grove, IL;  his loving great-grandchildren, Jessee James Perry, Danielle Nicole Perry and Joshua Tanner Perry; other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Opal Montgomery Dopp, his brother, Earl Dopp, and his grandson, Thomas Gustafson, II.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Portage, with military honors provided by Portage area veterans. The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.  

The family would like to extend special thanks for the loving care John received from Dorothy Cragin, Mary Agnew, Tony Ebert and Paul Ebert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Portage Municipal Airport in John’s name.
