Lynn C. Loomans

PORTAGE  -- Lynn C. Loomans, 72, of Portage,  went to live with his Lord and Savior on July 6, 2013.

Lynn was born on January 9, 1941, in Portage, the son of Clarence and Gladys (Chapman) Loomans.  Lynn was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Portage.  He graduated from Portage High School in 1959.  Lynn was employed for 31 years by the Milwaukee Road–Canadian Pacific Railroad as a conductor brakeman.

Lynn had a lifelong love of the outdoors.  Whether it was a “day for the books,” in a duck blind calling in mallards by hand, an afternoon in a deer stand, chasing roosters through the fields with “the boys,” (his beloved black Labrador Retrievers of which there were many) or taking just “one last cast,” for just “one more fish,” Lynn found peace and never tired of his outdoor adventures.  Other hobbies included tying his own trout fishing flies, bowling, spending time on the sandbars of the Wisconsin River with his children, and spending countless hours on the tennis court teaching his children to love a game that he loved.  Throughout his life, his grandchildren always were a source of pride and joy.  In the recent years, the newest editions brought him an uplifted spirit, peace and joy.

Lynn is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jane (Amundsen), and their daughters Ann (Joe) Rivard of Rochester, Minnesota, and Jennifer (Andy) Rooyakkers of Green Bay, Wisconsin.  His life was also blessed with his three older children, Timothy (Linda) Loomans of Portage, Robyn (Brian) Verge of Auburn, Washington, and Sara (Kelvin) Southards of Castle Rock, Colorado.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rebecca Loomans, Heather (Aneudy) Sanchez, John Loomans, Emily Hamm, Jacob (Rachel) Hamm, Hannah Rivard, Isaac Rivard and Dylan Rooyakkers; his great-grandchildren, Eva Loomans and Vincent Sanchez; his sister, Noreen Burton; his brothers, Keith (Marge) Loomans, Lowell (Joan) Loomans, and Dale (Eunice) Loomans;  his sister-in-law, Mary Loomans, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Steve Olson, and sister-in-law, Lucille Amundsen; many special nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.  Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ned Loomans, two grandchildren, Joshua Hamm and Elizabeth Hamm, and two brothers-in-law, James Burton and John Amundsen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.    Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kreckman and Divine Savior Healthcare for the years of excellent care, support, and concern for Lynn and his family.   We also want to thank our friends and relatives for their continued love, prayers, and support.

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
