Catherine G. "Katie" Lynch

PORTAGE – Catherine G. “Katie” Lynch, age 86, of Portage, died on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at University Hospital in Madison.

Katie was born on October 11, 1926, in Bismarck, North Dakota, the daughter of Arthur and Stella Wilson.  She married Gerald Lynch on November 22, 1947.  Katie worked at Weyenberg Shoe Factory and drove mail truck for 25 years.  She then received her CNA license when she was in her early 70’s.  Katie was a caregiver to numerous people in the area for many years.  She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Portage.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry, Portage; her children, Bonnie Shortreed, Portage, Jerry (Rosann) Lynch, Montello, Larry (Cheryl) Lynch, Portage, and Ernie (Tammy) Lynch, Portage;  10 grandchildren, Tim (Krista) Shortreed, Janesville, Nathan (Gretchen) Shortreed, Milton, Brad (Marci) Shortreed, Sturgeon Bay, Jerry Lynch, Jr., Sun Prairie, Jolene Lynch (Ross McFarlane), Sun Prairie, Scott Burnstad, LaCrosse, Erick Burnstad, Kyra Lynch, Garrett Lynch, and Jessica (Chris) Meier, all of Portage; 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Evan and Natalie Shortreed, Miranda, Dylan, and Carter Shortreed, Delaney Shortreed, Bella McFarlane, Kaitlyn Riley, and Cleo Meier; her sister Margie Burlingame, Janesville, and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Wilson, Portage.  Katie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, George Wilson, her son-in-law, Phil Shortreed, and her brother-in-law, Bert Burlingame.                 

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May, 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Rev. Jonathan Robertson officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
