Gerald F. “Jerry” Raught

PORTAGE / KING, WI  --  Gerald F. “Jerry” Raught, age 88, of King, WI, formerly of Portage, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.

Jerry was born on June 16, 1925 in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of Lyle and Vivienne (Welch) Raught.  He graduated from Belleville High School in 1943.  The next day, he joined the Marine Corps, serving 13 months on Midway Island and 8 years in military service.  He was married to Patricia Ross Raught and had five children;  then married Ramona M. Weiss on April 29, 1989.  Jerry worked for many years in the automobile industry.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and had been a member of the VFW. Jerry enjoyed bowling and golf.  He was very active in AA.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona;  his children, “Peepsie” Verne (John) Weber, Belleville, Michael Raught, Green Bay, Marcia (Timothy) Colby, Sauk Prairie, Patti (Michael) Stevens, Texas, and Christopher L. J. (Carrie) Raught, Plain;  13 grandchildren;  3 great-grandchildren;  his step-children, Dianne (Jim) Lawton, Portage, Donald (Lori) Weiss, Briggsville, Dennis (Lois) Weiss, Briggsville, Janice (Doug) Dittberner, Northglenn, CO, Joyce Weiss, Dubuque, IA, and Judy (Steve) Jacobs, Portage;  14 step-grandchildren;  11 step-great-grandchildren;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Vertice “Mike” Raught, his sister-in-law, Wilma Raught, and the mother of his children, Patricia Ross Raught.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl officiating.  Inurnment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, with full military honors provided by Portage area veterans. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous the chapter of your choice (Friends of Bill).

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
