DeWayne Carlton Riley

PORTAGE  --  DeWayne Carlton Riley, age 85, of Portage, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Tivoli in Portage, surrounded by his loving family.

DeWayne was born on June 23, 1927 in Portage, the son of Edwin and Mabel (Wanderer) Riley.  He was married on September 18, 1950 to Patricia Reynolds.  DeWayne served his country with the U.S. Army from 1950 until 1952.  He retired from the Columbia County Sheriff Dept. in 1986.  DeWayne was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Poynette, the American Legion Post 47, Portage, and he was a 3rd Degree Knight with the C. W. Henney Knights of Columbus Council 1637.  He spent some of the best days of his life with his family at his cabin Up North at Au Train, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife, Pat;  his children, Michael Riley, Port Washington, Daniel (Jan) Riley, Poynette, Shannon (Sue) Riley, Portage, Kelly (Tom) Staveness, Portage, and Colleen (Steve) Sletten, Portage;  nine grandchildren;  eleven great-grandchildren; other near relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Edward (Vicki) Riley, his sister, Elizabeth (James) Ragan, and his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Susan Riley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 655 S. Main St., Poynette, Wisconsin, with Fr. Raymond Dischler presiding.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Pineda and the staff at Tivoli.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
