Betty Lou Elizabeth Wade

ENDEAVOR  /  PORTAGE  --  Betty Lou Elizabeth Wade, age 87, of Endeavor, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at University Hospital in Madison.

Betty Lou was born on July 1, 1925 in Gogebic County, Ironwood, Michigan, to William and Winifred (Bazile) Marquardt.  She married Ronald William Wade on June 11, 1947.  Betty Lou and Ronald raised six children on a dairy farm in Moundville Township.  She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stevens Point University in 1965, with an elementary teaching degree.  Betty Lou worked in various school districts for 33 years as a teacher/principal and retired from the Adams-Friendship District in 1988.  She loved to garden, create oil paintings, sew, crochet, knit and quilt.  Betty Lou played piano and enjoyed singing.  She was active in the Moundville Methodist Church and its women’s group.  She was active in a ladies quilting group until her death.  Betty Lou was also a member of the Moundville Homemakers Society.

She is survived by her husband of 65+ years, Ronald;  her children, Sharon (Phil) Gilbert, Stevens Point, Raymond Wade, Moundville, Joseph Wade, Mindoro, Owen (Christy) Wade, Endeavor, Steve (Cindy) Wade, Portage, and Louan (Matt) Friend, Moundville;  16 grandchildren;  47 great grandchildren;  two sisters, Bernice and Germaine;  three brothers, DuWayne, Clifford and Vernon;  other near relatives and many close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Florence, three sisters, Margaret, Doris and Evelyn, a brother, Donald, a granddaughter and two great grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Moundville Methodist Church, W5501 County Road O, Endeavor, with the Rev. Julie Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow in Moundville Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.      

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at UW Hospital, Meriter Hospital, Divine Savior Hospital and Tivoli. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Moundville Methodist Church.
