 John Charles Delany

POYNETTE  --    John Charles Delany, loving father and husband, age 75, of Poynette, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at his home.

John was born on May 30, 1939 in Poynette, the son of Charles and Hortense (Duerst) Delany.  He was a member of the Poynette High School graduating Class of 1957.  John served his country with the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1960.  In 1963, he started farming on the family farm, and continued farming for the rest of his life.  He was joined in marriage to Anna Bull on July 25, 1964, one of the hottest days that summer.  John was a member of the Poynette First Presbyterian Church.  He had worked for Gunther Trucking and Lodi Co-op.  John loved farming and his model trains.  You do not play with model trains; you work the railroad, which he had been doing since he was 6 years old.  His family was very important to him.

He is survived by his wife, Anna of 50 years;  his children, Elizabeth Delany, Bruce Delany, Victoria (Jay) Hanson, and Julie (Darrell) Schoeneberg;  five grandchildren, Delany and Madison Hanson, Rhianna, Grady and Elizabeth Schoeneberg;  his sisters, Suzanne Eichorst, Poynette, and Mary Delany, Jefferson;  his sister-in-law, Sally Delany, Elkhorn;  his nieces, Karen Eichorst, LaCrosse and Tonya (Dave) Moran, Elkhorn;  his great nephew, Michael Starkey;  his great niece, Alyssa Starkey; other near relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hortense Delany, his brother, Jim Delany, and his brother-in-law, Dale Eichorst.

There will be a hymn sing at Poynette’s First Presbyterian Church at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2015.  Brunch to follow.  Burial will be private.

Thank you to St. Mary’s Hospital’s doctors and nursing staff and Home Health United Nurses and staff.  A special thank you to Home Health Hospice staff, Chris and Theresa.  The well wishes of family and friends were appreciated during this difficult time.
